Measurement of spherical lenses power using 4 point and Shack-Hartmann method on Auto Lensmeter

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to analyze the accuracy of digital lensmeters which are using 4 point and Shack-Hartman method respectively.

Methods: The measured lenses are from the most frequently used manufacturers¡¯ones in Korea. The lenses are from 3 different brands(A, B, C) with spherical power of -5.00D, -10.00D, and -15.00D.

Results: The following results were obtained using 4 point method employed lensmeter; the average value of refractive power was -4.89D for manufacture A as -5.00D, -4.92D for manufacture B as -5.00D and -4.97D for manufacture C as -5.00D, respectively. The average value of refractive power was -9.94D for manufacture A as -10.00D, -9.94D for manufacture B as -10.00D and -9.93D for manufacture C as -10.00D respectively. The average value of refractive power was -14.96D for manufacture A as -15.00D, -14.90D for manufacture B as -15.00D and -14.92D for manufacture C as -15.00D respectively. The following results were also obtained using Hartman Shack method employed lensmeter; The average value of refractive power was -5.00D for manufacture A as -5.00D, -5.01D for manufacture B as -5.00D and -5.02D for manufacture C as -5.00D, respectively. The average value of refractive power was -10.00D for manufacture A as -10.00D, -10.01D for manufacture B as -10.00D and -10.00D for manufacture C as -10.00D respectively. The average value of refractive power was -15.09D for manufacture A as -15.00D, -15.01D for manufacture B as -15.00D and -15.08D for manufacture C as -15.00D respectively.

Conclusion: As per the minus diopter spherical lenses, the Shack-Hartman lensmeter showed better accuracy in spherical lenses values reading.
